Well, I finally got in on a TI hexbus floppy drive and won the silly thing! Going down this weekend to pick it up. Seeing it's only 100 some odd miles, and gas is down to $1.99, I figured I'd make the trip and get to see a genuine TI 99/8 and show off my 2 CC-40 protos.

Wonder who'll be drooling more, me or them???

Curtis

p.s. Wife wasn't happy, but she's going with me, so that comes out in the wash.

Hehe, I did notice no item number posted for the ebay item. Pretty smart actually, as every post on this website shows up in google in about 2 hours <shrug>

Ok, ok, I won't ask what the final winning amount was. Likely I don't really want to know

Curtis, if that was you that paid $615 for that floppy, boy, you are OUTSIDE your mind!

Talk about not taking "NO" for an answer..

Hey - if it makes ya happy, congrats to ya! Now skedoodle over to that dude who has the brand-new-in-box 16K version CC40's and get ya a matchin' 'puter !!

This is the only one I've seen in a while:

Curtis, I assume that was you that won it?

Man, if I dropped $615 on something like that, even if it was lawn-mowing-money I earned on weekends, my wife would, well, shoot! I don;t even KNOW how far she'd go!

It wouldn't be a pretty sight - i tell ya that!

Tony

ps - ya find all kinda' nutty eBay sellers at times:

A used breast pump?
Are you SERIOUS?!?!?!?

That's a lot of money. And I thought $450 for an apple II was a bit of money! And that was just the drive?!
Good luck on the drive.

"Engineering prototype"

Man....I sure hope it works.....

I have 2 CC40's, and a HexBus printer, and I watched that thing pop up, but when I saw it cross $300, I just kept an eye to see what it would sell for...

Curtis, you know we're just having fun - if ya wanted it, ya got it, and ya got something VERY few people have, and I kinda' doubt it will lose value, expecially considering it is a non-publicly-release engineering prototype.

Okay, yeah it was the one listed that I picked up for $615. Of course, when you consider there are less than 10 of these known in the whole world...

Besides, the last one they offered up (yup, they had TWO of them!) went for $825. And it helps that I will probably sell off enough other stuff to pretty well cover the cost in the next few weeks.

Also, being a prototype, it'll go quite nicely with my 2 CC-40 protos.

Oh someone commented on the gas mileage of my car. My little Saturn SL2 gets in the mid 30's! Plus, gas has settled to $1.99 in the neck of the woods.

Oh, by the way, the CC-40 that's on ebay right now is NOT an 18K unit. I emailed the seller and he did a fre(3) and came up with 5716 which indicates a 6K unit. He doesn't know how the box got switched. Caveat emptor big time!

Curtis: If ya want an 18K CC40, I can provide a link or 2. I have (2) 8K - one NIB from that lady on ebay selling them for $20 NIB. Apparently, she worked for TI back inthe day, and she says when they got out of home computers, they let the employees buy the remaining stock.

Tony,

Actually, I've got a couple of 18K units and WAY too many 6K units. I seem to acquire them without even trying! Everytime one pops up on ebay and doesn't get any bidders, I will "rescue" it.

Still, I'd like the links. Who knows what other goodies she might have... Or have you already quized her on that?

Tony and Terry,

Know about Swim 4 Home and TexinTreasures.

I almost forgot Jim Lesher. Jim has TONS of stuff, unless he's recently sold out to someone else. 6K, 18K machines, printer/plotters, modems, and some software. All at very attractive prices.

I've dealt with him in the past and he's been very good to work with.

Here's his link:
