IBM 5364 System 36 PC & 5291-2 Terminal

Hello, a friend of mine have these for sale, he asked me info becouse he bought it with a lot of stuff but do not understand nothing about computers...

well I don't know anything about mainframes and these type of system, I made some research and understand that need a PC to use the 5364, but do not understand if this 5291 is used together the 5364 or not.
And if you put the driver card to a PC, how can use it? what sofware need to comunicate with the 5364 and what you can do with this setup???
However if someone can be interested I can put you in touch with him.

Yes, the driver card goes into an XT or AT, which then serves as programmer panel and system console. The PC software requires the host have no more than 640 KB RAM.

You can attach the 5291 (and any other twinaxial terminal) to the 5364, but it will not be available until SSP IPLs.

It looks like this 5364 is maybe one of the models which use 70 MB ESDI drives (all the ones I've seen use 40 MB ST-412 "MFM" drives).

SSP is the System/36 operating system. This is what runs on the 5364 unit.

IPL is "initial program load", IBM midrange-speak for "boot".
