IBM drive 4865

Hello,
I have an IBM 4865 floppy drive with a PY227B card. I want to test this drive on a Pentium I. To do so, I am using the announcements:
DEVICE=DRIVER.SYS /D:2 /F:2
DEVICE=DRIVER.SYS /d:3 /f:0
DEVICE=DRIVER.SYS /d:2 /t:80 /s:9
but there is no response.
The drive letter is assigned, but the drive does not respond (the light is off).

What am I doing wrong?
 
I see that you also posted on Vogons, at [here], and on a .de site at [here]. In post #7 of the .de site, you added photos.

Your 4965 is the type that expects power to be supplied to it via the cable that connects to the DB37 connector of a floppy controller. According to the thread at [here], "+12V goes to pin 1 and +5V to pin 4 of the DB37, ground on pins 2&3."

Good photos of the PY227B controller are at [here]. The user connects power to the orange connector, and that power gets routed to certain pins on the DB37 connector, per the photos below. A responder to the .de post indicates same; English translation: "The connection CNP of the card should include the power supply for the external drive."

Are you providing suitable power to the orange connector (CNP') ? Make sure that you do that correctly. For example, accidentally putting +12V onto the drive's +5V line might damage the drive.

As I said on .de: a friend is testing this for me and called for help because he couldn't figure it out. So I am posting the question on the sites where I regularly find an answer.
I will pass on your ideas to him and hope he succeeds.

I 'm on holiday and i just got a message from the man who's testing my IBM 4865.

Could you just double-check that about the power supply voltages? I checked that, but if I were to connect the power supply as in your email (1 = 12V, 2/3 = GND, 4 = 5V), I am pretty sure I would break something unless I am overlooking something...

If I measure the setup, pin 1 of CNP1 comes out on pin 14 of the 2 ICs on the drive (the left PCB in the photo is the one where the round black cable connects). These are 2 SN7438 ICs, but those ICs are only rated for 5V and not 12V.

That is what I expect. See the diagram below. Note the crossover of pin numbering that is occurring within the PY227B.

At last, we were unable to get the IBM4865 working.
The drive itself was recapped; it worked perfectly (tested in an IBM Model 30).
The control system was also recaptured.
Afterwards, the drive was connected to a
Pentium 2 (MB: Edom/WinTech W6BXA) and a Pentium 3 (MB Intel N440BX (Nightshade))
Booted with a DOS startup disk (3.30) with driver.sys in the config.sys

The following instructions were attempted:
Resp.:
DEVICE=DRIVER.SYS /D:2 /F:2
DEVICE=DRIVER.SYS /d:3 /f:0
DEVICE=DRIVER.SYS /d:2 /t:80 /s:9

Since the drive itself works, I can at least use it in another IBM.
