IBM PS/2 model 30-286 Zip Drive install

I doubt it. The "normal" name has always been "autoexec.bat" and "config.sys" as far back as I can remember, like DOS 2.11. I have only seen those .400 jobs from the .bat file getting renamed. Autoexec.$$$, autoexec.bak, autoexec.sav those are all just various backup copies that programs create.

The XTREE GOLD System is pretty complex for its time. Do you think it is the creator of the autoexec.400? I was able to edit files both in hex and ASCII. It made it easy for me to move around between files and their contents.

I wouldn't worry about where it came from. The main thing is it is NOT used in the boot up process. Some software companies would make up their own extensions for their distribution files. They would have instructions like "copy the autoexec.400 file to autoexec.bat". So, you will likely never know where it originally came from. Really doesn't matter.

Lots of software around the time was pretty good at doing the install. They just didn't provide any way to uninstall all their changes. As they come and go, autoexec.bat and config.sys get more and more messed up with stuff that doesn't belong there anymore.

I removed some files from the C: Drive to make room and ran the DOSSTUFF file on the ZIP Drive. The DOSSTUFF.EXE uncompressed and I ran the INSTALL.EXE on the ZIP drive. It loaded all necessary files into my system and adjusted the Nibble speed. I was able then to go to AUTOEXEC.BAT and take out the run Guest command. It now runs without problems.
I took the BOOT Disk and put the GUEST program on it. I edited the GUEST.INI file and REM all the DRIVER list except ASPIPPM1.SYS and ASPIPPM2.SYS. I started up my computer with the BOOT Disk. I ran A:>guest and it found the ZIP Drive letter D:. I then ran A:>D:\ DOSSTUFF\ INSTALL . It ran the INSTALL of the DRIVERS to my C: Drive.

you could try the palmzip drivers if you havn't allready.works on older software/hardware.you can get it as a free demo version(7 min. time limit before having to reboot) or $10.00 full version.
