Hi, I got an extra working Intel P4004 system (taxameter) that I would sell if anyone is interested. It runs on 12V.

International shipping to the US probably makes it out of the question for me, but I'd love to see the pictures of it regardless.

I've done several 4004 projects over the last couple years.

There was a battery inside which luckily has not leaked. I removed it carefully. Shows fare on a Panaplex display. Device is from the 1970s... However, I found a service sticker from 1993 (!) inside and parts of the main PCB seem to have some protective coating, which could explain why it still runs fine.

I also have another socketed Intel 4004 (P4004) with mainboard for a lot cheaper, as it is not a running system. I think it is very likely the 4004 is fine, but I am not sure. This other one comes out of a unit with leaked battery that had caused corrosion damage to parts of the PCB but not the MCS-4 ICs.

The issue with shipping to the US these days is the tariffs. Beyond just the $$ themselves, there is often risk involved of something going wrong and/or the rate not being what was expected. It puts a damper on any international purchases.

Regardless... Thanks, but I think I'll pass for now. I will keep an eye on the thread. I've been spending a bit much on vintage projects lately, and I'm trying to pull back -- but it's hard when interesting things come up.

Indeed. From Australia, to sell to the USA I as a seller have to sign up to some US-based third-party entity that I pay a 10% tariff to up front. I also have to have Country of Origin and an additional special code for each item. Well I would like to reclaim my additional 10% cost from a US buyer (because it is not my fault). How would I expect to get that back? Add an additional 10% cost to the selling price perhaps, to the value of the tariff? Then that would be imposed on a non-US buyer, which I would be loath to do. It's just all too hard to figure out. For me, anyway.
EDIT sorry for the off topic post on a for sale thread, but I believe this tariff-collecting entity cooperates with postal services in other countries as well.

You are absolutely correct about other countries postal systems and tariff collection. Canada Post only accepts USA bound parcels that have had duty paid through Zonos which forces the use of AI to generate the HTS code from a picture. It failed to recognize a PCB every time I tried it. The ridiculous part is that under the CUSMA free trade agreement, 90% of goods, including my boards, are tariff free and Zonos refuses to acknowledge that and simply forces a tariff + service charge Luckily I have a package forwarder who understands how duties & tariffs truly work and only charges an extra $2 or so for Customs clearance and delivery to a USPS office within the USA ... simpler, cheaper and faster than Canada Post.

Luckily I have a package forwarder who understands how duties & tariffs truly work and only charges an extra $2 or so for Customs clearance and delivery to a USPS office within the USA ... simpler, cheaper and faster than Canada Post.

Is your package forwarder a commercial operation that other hobbyists in Canada might be able to also use? If so, can you share some information about them?

I use www.dykpost.com and if anyone is interested, I can DM some advice on using their services. Their locations are limited but they have worked well for me; cheaper and faster than Canada Post plus zero tariffs on computer items.
