Hello everyone,
First post here.
I recently found a SHARP-PC 4600 that uses the 26pin HDD interface.Drive is JD3848H 40mb, I think. It had leaked caps on the bottom side of the PCB, which I repla ed(See pic below). However, there are electrolytic caps that are covered by the platter, that I can't replace.(The heads and platters cannot be removed from the PCB).So, is it possible to remove the platters without damaging the disk?

Also, if I shake the drive before booting ,it starts spinning,or else it just produces a clicking sound and shuts down. I tried moving manually the spindle a little bit and added wd40(pic).No luck.

Also ,which is the purpose of the potentiometers on the bottom side?

Sorry, I am not a native English speaker and I cannot express the problem very well. Thanks in advance!

Techknight tried this either last year or the year before and because the platters contain embedded servo and timing tracks, once you disturb the platters the drive's done and there is currently no way to keep them aligned. It's unfortunately a really, really bad hard drive design.

Factory adjustments for things such as read/write amplitude, speed correction, coil bias etc. Do not touch them.

Thank you for the answer

So,is this drive officially done? I can't understand why it only spins after I have "shaked" it before boot. Spindle is stuck maybe?

Stiction, perhaps?
Update: Tried everything and opened the drive. Electrolytic Capacitors under the platter had leaked. There is no way to replace them without removing the platters. Unfortunately this drive is officially dead.
