Dave Moorman, last editor of Loadstar - the monthly Commodore disk magazine, has made available a number of issues on-line, ready to download as .D81's. Each .D81 is packed with commentary, graphics, and programs. The disks start from issue 170 and continue through the Dave Moorman years with issues 200 to the last issue 250. That's from 1998 to 2008. Go to

This is awesome, I loved LoadStar!!

One quick note, if anyone has any contact information for the parties responsible for the website, disk image 208.D81 is missing (the link points to 209-1.D81 which is the same as 209.D81 according to a binary comparison).

Thanks for sharing this!!

I bet this has come up before, but is there a place to download Loadstar 001, 002, etc.? A complete set? Just curious. I don't need personally, but unless there are commercial interests preventing it, this should be available from a historic perspective, eh? Would I get in trouble if I posted this?

Fender Tucker issued a whole CD of back Loadstar issues under "Ramble House" called Loadstar Compleat. It came within a fake 5.25" floppy in an original Loadstar Tyvek disk sleeve, and covered Loadstar 64 1-199 and 128 1-42 plus a whole mess of the special issues. I suspect he still has the rights to them. The package even included an old 1993 Softdisk catalogue, just for giggles.

I've got the CD here and it's quite nice (I bought it in 2004). I even found some of the stuff I got published in Loadstar back in the day. Hopefully he still sells copies.

Issues 1-199 plus other Loadstar extras (Loadstar 128, Loadstar Newsletter, and much more) are still being sold on CD-ROM by first LS editor, Fender Tucker. To buy the Loadstar Compleat CD, go to

Not from me. ;)

Now what did I do with my LS Compleat?

I have had the first 32 or so on disk in a binder. Precious few originals, a couple magazines. I think Load Star is a great into to Commodore in the heyday

It's actually a real 5.25" disk. He just pulled the cookie out of it and dropped in a CD. Very clever. :)

For anybody in 2024 looking for Loadstar, Fender's site is still available at http://www.ramblehouse.com/loadstarcompleat.htm but Dave's site at http://loadstargallery.webs.com/ is a dead link.

Sorry about bumping and old thread (I don't know how that is looked upon here) but did anybody ever get their hands on the 208.D81 file?

I can't seem to find it anywhere; am finding other folks looking for it but nobody saying that they found it. The post above is one of the few that identifies the exact problem of what was listed as 208 on Dave's site was actually a copy of 209. For issues 1-199, along with nearly everything else that was published before the switch to Dave starting at issue 200, can still be obtained directly from Fender at his site for just $15 via PayPal.

Uh-oh. If not available anywhere else, I think the only way you can get info on the disk is directly from Dave Moorman on Facebook.
I'm working on it, Robert. :) Dave is not the easiest person to reach these days.

It seems that a bunch of sites have various parts of the LS library but there are some elusive files like disk 208. I'll try Dave again after a bit.

It's still available from archive.org (of course):

Some spot checking seems to show that all the files are there. The link for Disk 208 still pointed to 209-1.D81 as of 12-2022. I doubt it ever got fixed.

If it was, archive.org never indexed it. I tried the first index, the last, and several random days between, and none of them had 208 pointing to the right file.

I've also tried ordering the complete collection from VCSWeb but it looks like I may end up having to file a PayPal dispute since after placing the order no download link was provided and they're not responding to the "Contact Us" form.

I've been trying to obtain it from legit/reputable sources, even tried searching eBay, but so far I can't find it anywhere. I've also tried reaching out to Dave Moorman on Facebook with no luck.

At this point it's turning into a bit of a digital version of a quest to find the Grail!

I realize a complete set is always a goal, but is there something specific in this particular issue you are trying to get? If so, maybe searching for that item would help to find the Grail. ;)

Update to this bit: After filing a PP dispute I heard from VCSWeb who created a DropBox folder with a copy of the files to download, dispute was reversed of course.
