Looking for a good 12MP or better P&S digital camera on Ebay around $100 new or old stock

I wonder if some sort of DIY tiny hood, (one that resembles models put onto computer monitors) might shield the screen from light.

Might look funny, but might just work:

Find an old unused junk camera to experiment with: Cut 3 pieces of black thin plastic to put together over the edges of the camera's view screen using some super glue.
Lots of solutions on-line and in 3-d printing. It would be a challenge with my s7000 as the screen comes almost to the edges on 3-sides on the back.
Might be possible to make something that clips over the top, and goes into the tripod screw...
.. but then thats another bit of junk...

So the Powershot D20 came in the mail yesterday. It was easy, and I got started taking decent pics:

Some greenish hues around the edges of objects can be seen, as well as some general fuzziness. For some reason I think it goes well with the cartoonish looks of my In Win Griffin case... ☺️

When it comes to videos, the HD quality with SILENT zooming in/out looks amazing to me - but there is a clicking sound in the audio of any footage made. I removed both dangling wrist straps, (one twists in) but the clicking/thumping sound persists. Maybe my camera took a few drop falls and that caused it. It does have a little bit of dings and scrapes from use. It is a rugged camera - to a point.

The camera's built-in mic is not very audible or clear, especially due to it being front facing. Seems to be more of a "social" camera... Well, it's a stylish looking placeholder while I continue my search for what is my go-to camera.

Maybe the older Powershot D10 is not prone to the clicking issue. (I can reuse my batteries in it) Finding used cameras helps me save money in this endeavor.

I've seen portable camera mount/holders that have a top handle that also allow you to fit a mic on top, what are they called? This could possibly help avoid picking up camera noise if present in my future cameras. The Powershot D20 lacks a mic port, and the Powershot D10 probably too. It looks unlikely that the issue can be fixed.

I found a good description of my issue in this post about the Powershot SX50:

12 MP is still pretty respectable, I would not worry about that.

As to the color cast, you may try working with white balance: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/275741/Canon-Powershot-D20.html?page=105

I do like Fuji products (digital and film... I take no offense to your not liking Fuji). I am still more of a film shooter, and a lot of Fuji products are oriented towards film like results. I have the Fujifilm XT-2.

Thank you for keeping this thread alive! I'm very open to new knowledge!! 🧠

My next attempt I think will be a weather/waterproof Panasonic Lumix. What are your opinions on these?

I've had good times with my Powershot D20. I love that I can use it out in the rain or with wet hands, though I don't take it underwater - because some user reviewers said it eventually died after having one too many of an Undersea Adventure... (Pun intended, but I LOVE that ol' KA educational DOS game!)

I found out with my experiences that I prefer rugged cameras like the D20. I can just grab it and go, wherever I want to go!
