  • From now on we will require that a prefix is set for any items in the sales area. We have created regions and locations for this. We also require that you select a delivery option before posting your listing. This will hopefully help us streamline the things that get listed for sales here and help local people better advertise their items, especially for local only sales. New sales rules are also coming, so stay tuned.

my name is Michael Marro. I own an electronics recycling facility on Long Island, New York and have come across a pallet full of vintage computers. I have originally done business with some before but they have moved out of state. What I am looking for is an ongoing business relationship with someone who is knowledgeable in the history, refurbishment and appraisal (including sales) of vintage computer equipment. Ultimately I'm looking for commission based transactions and it would be very fair as I do not have much money spent on them thus far but do not want to see the relics go to the graveyard. If this is something you are interested please contact me through this forum and we can move from there. Thanks for your time everyone, including the knowledge you all have helped create on this forum. Hope to hear from you all soon!

Michael: I think everyone on this forum will tell you I'm the guy to talk to. :)

I run a user group called MARCH: Mid-Atlantic Retro Computing Hobbyists. We have members in many states all over the upper-right quadrant of the country, including some in NYC and Long Island. We have a history of sorting through collections, fairly evaluating them, and finding good homes for them at fair prices (fair to both sides, not just the buyer or just the seller.)

Please contact me privately at evan@snarc.net and we can discuss the best way to proceed.

Today I visited the company in question (PM me for a hyperlink / email address). His 3 month stockpile consisted out of the following (nothing tested):
1X AT&T 6300
1X IBM PS/2 Model 55 SX
1X generic 286 clone
?X generic 386 clones
?X generic 486 clones
1X generic 586 clone
3X Epson Equity (I+,II,II+)
?X CT1740 with ASP/CSP
?X CT2940
1X Thunder Board
1X Tandy CM-11 CRT
1X AST Six Pak Plus
1X CGA Full Length
2X Full Height FDDs
?X 5.25" FDDs
?X 3.5" FDDs
?X IDE HDDs
?X ISA VGA

I did not buy or test anything as these are not the items I currently collect. He will keep me apprised in case anything else vintage pops up.

Recall any of the pricing? I'm sure that 6300 should quickly find a home. The Equity is an interesting system too as Epson didn't stick around in the computer market that long. A Tandy color monitor is useful for anyone that doesn't have to pay shipping. Thanks for following up for everyone! Great to see more recyclers willing to reuse rather than scrap.

Yesterday I spent 6 hours at this scrapper and processed a pallet of PCs/cards. Most 286/386/486s MOBOs were dead or heavily affected by leaking batteries. So those were scrapped except for one desktop case. RAM, CPUs and cache were salvaged. Some ISA cards also appeared dead. 3 CT1740s with ASP/CSP were fine and will be for sale. Lots of 3.5" DS/HD FDDs were dead. An IBM PS/2 Model 55 SX 8555 was dead. The Tandy CM-11 was fried. The AT&T PC6300 could not be tested. 3 generic AMD 80486 DX4 100MHZ desktops will be for sale. I could not test an IBM CGA card, AST SixPakPlus and some other cards but they will be for sale anyway. 1 Epson Equity was scrapped. 2 Epson Equity PCs will be for sale.

For my labor I took an IBM Pentium 233 MMX (not 100% cosmetically), 4 IDE HDDs, a PAS (no idea whether it works), a 512KB ISA Trident VGA card, a CD-ROM card, 2 IDE CD-ROM drives and 1 5.25"'DS/HD FDD. I will go back in April / May to continue.

ahahahahaha. All or a sudden Evan is an expert in peecees. Oh that is rich. He did his best to drive out anyone who owned anything w/an 8088 or it's kin. Was afraid the group would turn into a Win 3.1 help forum.

Times change I guess . . .

I don't know who you are, but you should work on your reading comprehension skills, and you're way off-base:
  • I did not know the original poster had mostly PCs until Peter's Jan. 24 post.
  • Had I known that, then I would have advised him that only the 6300 was of interest.
  • Just because my interest is (real) vintage computers doesn't preclude me from knowing about newer stuff.

Whatever. I don't put much stock in people who go online to childishly insult someone while hiding behind a screen name.

I never insulted you. And if I wanted to hide it would be a most difficult task. Most people recognize me as soon as they see a single post. This is the first screen name I ever signed up for on this forum. Call it hiding if you wish. Oi whatever. Lighten up.

I don't think he trolled, I think Peter is helping him out and relaying the info for us (thanks Peter! Sounds like a potentially good deal if you're getting useful items in return for your efforts).
