Hello again members,
I came into possession of an IBM Aptiva model E-26. The system has Windows 98, CDRom, 1.44 floppy and 2 HDDs. Which are drives C and D. I have no use of the CDrom because I see there are no primary or secondary IDE drivers installed. How can I load these back in?
Thanks as always

Thanks Makefile, I read the article from the link and how it describes what could be causing the 2 yellow marks. It recommended performing a test from a Microsoft Knowledge link before anything is done but the link is dead.

I looked in the registry for the NoIDE where the docs said it would be and I didn't see it anywhere. I did more searching and I found a recovery disc that someone on another forum said he installed on his 2137 E26. So I made the CD and it installed Windows 95 and all the programs the Aptiva came with. All the drivers installed except the the same 2. The download said 02K2472. My motherboard says 02K2551. I doubt the different boards were different enough to have different recovery CDs.

I know it's been a month, but I got back into the Aptiva last night. I installed 2 different recovery discs. One was a windows 95 environment, the other was from a slightly newer model (E96) and it is windows 98. Both recovered fine. and still the same issue with the IDE controllers. I checked the registry one more time for the NoIDE entry and i read it should have a value of 0. There is no NoIDE entry at all.
You can see at the bottom of the screen the complete path I'm in. I'm fairly new to Windows environments but I find it hard to believe both these recovery discs didn't install these drivers. It seems it did and somethings preventing them from installing.

The KB kind of hints at that if you load a DOS IDE/ADAPI driver this might happen. Maybe try removing the cd driver from config.sys (and mscdex from autoexec.bat) and see what happen?

Thanks Mia,
I'm not familiar with KB. Here's pics of my config and autoexec.
ALSO. I should mention this machine has 2 HDDs. Drive C and D. Could there be a conflict with the second HDD being D? The drives are only 3GB each so that's probably why someone just threw another one in. But I thought I'd mention that.

Oh, sorry, KB was the name of the large collection of things that Q151911 was part of, that Makefile linked to above.

Maybe try commenting out / removing the lines vide-cdd.sys and mscdex.exe and see what happens?
Worst case you won't have access to your cd reader and you can just go back to how the files was before.
Best case it works perfectly, second best your disks get full performance but the CD won't work. If so you could worst case add boot menu options to load or not load the CD drivers.
