Hello to all the members of the group,my name is Javier and i am restoring several models of Toshiba laptops, T1850, T2100, T2000 and pentium models onwards ...
the main problem I am encountering is repairing the floppy drives. ALL have at least a rotten or broken drive belt. and I think there are also head adjustment problems.
I would like to contact someone who will join forces with me and try to repair and adjust these floppy drives.
The brand is MATSUSHITA EME 263TL, EME278T, 278TB, 278TC, 279TD ... all have a similar strap
I have tried 1x1mm square cassette belts in lengths from 65mm to 67mm and the performance is not correct, sometimes it reads and other times it doesn't even try. I am suspicious that the head does not reach the adequate speed and the electronics do not allow the reading of the floppy disk.
The original strap is only 0.35mm thick and about 2mm wide, I can't find anything commercial for sale to install there.
I have read that there are people who build new belts with 3d printing machines, does anyone know about this? could be the solution ..
Also comment that all Matsushita floppy drives have a VR1 potentiometer that I don't know what to adjust, and some test points called TP1, TP2, TP3, TP5, TP6. Does anyone have a service manual, schematics and adjustment to be able to repair these units? I await your answers, these floppy drives are different from other examples that I have found on the net, and I have not been able to fix them.
Another problem is being able to test them outside of the laptop. they have a 26 pin flat ribbon connector with 1.25mm spacing between pins the older units ... the newer ones the connector is already reduced, it would be 26pins and 1mm spacing on the connecting tape.
Would it be possible to make an adapter to use these floppy drives in a desktop pc? connecting the flat 26 pin tape to a standard 34 pin ide connector (floppy connector)?
Does anyone know where to get the material?
At the same time, would it be possible to connect a standard 34-pin desktop PC floppy drive to our Toshiba Laptops? We could use it as an external floppy drive from the Toshiba motherboard's own ribbon connector.
Greetings from Spain.

Thanks for the information, when you try it if possible tell us about your experience here, and if it works correctly.

Greetings! I'm also looking to repair a couple of these drives. I just ordered the last belt that was available from Console5; hopefully it helps! Of the two drives I have, one will read original MS-DOS disks, but nothing else. The other won't read anything (although it's trying!). Hopefully this belt lets me repair one of the drives. I'd love if someone could find another source though!

For posterity, here's a video (in French) showing the disassembly of a very similar drive. I'm hoping it will help me put my drive back together. 😆
