I accidentally posted this in the vcwiki hardware forum which nobody seems to read

I powered up a Miniscribe 2012 which at first didn't spin up then seemed to have varying speed but now steady and the spindle bearing noise seems to have become less.
It did eventually prep and pass a media test with a few bad sectors on a Zenith Z100. If I can find access to the spindle bearings without opening the platter housing,
would it be advisable to try and put a drop of light oil on it ? Or any other home remedies ?

To clear up the bearing noise, try running the drive upside-down for a couple of days to redistribute the lubricant.

At least it's not a brick (old Miniscribe joke there.)

I thought this was a brick at first. That will be interesting, it has a data separator card mounted on top. I'll keep that in mind if I think it needs more help.

Is it ok to read and write to it while upside down or just let it run idle ? Sometimes I have a hard time getting it to spin up but it finally does so I might try the
upside down therapy. Otherwise I need a pulley on it for a rope starter :)
