Model 2: Can It Utilize Double Sided Disks?

I've been in the process of making one TRS-80 Model II from two broken units. The progress has been excellent so far. As for the floppy drive, it was in rough shape. I ended up purchasing one from ebay. The only thing is, it's a double sided Shugart drive. I'm certain that this drive can work in single sided mode without a problem. My question is, can it function in double sided mode? I'm guessing I would need a different floppy controller, perhaps one from a Model 16, 12 or 6000. Has anyone been successful in making this work?

I think all you need is a different OS. DOS PLUS II lists support for double sided disks in the manual that is online. May be other OS versions though IIRC none came from Tandy.
