ok, firstly, I apologies yet again for my endless ramblings about early PC's! "sorry"

I've just come across an original early IBM PC, through a friend of a friend. Unfortunately it will probabally cost a bit to post (it comes with box, printer, monitor, etc, and they're in the other end of the country), so I'm looking for an opinion beforehand...

It apparently belonged from new to an elderly man, who's wife is now selling it after he sadly passed away.

Here's a picture:

How much is a thing like this worth? I'm expecting details back soon regarding the software/operating system, etc :)

It's the computer I have always wanted!!

Hey, that's what this forum is here for...

How much is a thing like this worth? I'm expecting details back soon regarding the software/operating system, etc :)

It's beautiful! Looks to be in mint condition...

It's value depends largely on those very details. Is it a PC or a PC-XT? What size is the hard drive? Memory? Printer? Software/operating system? Monitor/graphics card? Etc, etc, etc...???

by looking on some websites, I think it might be a 5160, but I really am not too sure.

Hands off, I've been looking for one of these for at least 5 years :D

If you're looking at the back anyway, check the nameplate. It'll read IBM Personal Computer 5150 or IBM Personal Computer XT 5160. It looks like a very original XT to me.

These aren't particularly rare so they aren't worth a whole bunch, but the best of them (clean, working and with docs) can command up to $100 or so.

Good luck!

There seems to be a bit of interest in that machine
here, so I'd say put it in the action area & try & get
all the pennies you can from it! ;-)

Cheers,

Well I didn't think it was that funny! :) But you could
all have fun voting for this machine & perhaps somone
can vote 1 sec before the action finishes! ;-) (Not that
I condone it).

I've heard back from the owner... they don't know much about computers, but this is what they told me:

1) Doesn't seem to boot, although I did see it working before Fred
died
2) Not Windows, because Fred said it was just DOS & I know it couldn't
do Windows but it has a Dell DOS manual
3) I think it's a 5150 with black/white monitor, hard disk & a 5.25 inch floppy

Other info, the printer which is not an IBM one has an original manual, PC has several cards in it, obviously one is graphics, other is a modem, don't know 3rd
