My Compaq 4/25 has an extra battery. What is it for?

My guess is, it gives you just enough power that you can hot-swap the main battery without needing to power down first.
 
Maybe it is the equivalent of the 'resume' battery shown at [here].

Odd that they'd offer it for a Contura 3/25 (386-based machine) since that pre-dated Win95 (and it's suspend function) by some time. I'm sure certain versions of Win3.x had such a feature, though I've never seen it...
 
Not sure if it's the camera but the connector on the logic board is looking a bit green. You might want to remove the battery before it leaks any more.

Good point. If it's not got any kind of a charge, it's just sitting there being a potential hazard.
 
It looks like some sort of potting compound or glue to me, not really green/blue enough to be corrosion. Though the picture quality is crap so it's hard to see.
