I ended up with both a Tandy CCR-81 and a CCR-82 and *numerous* cassette data cables. If I try and use the "remote" jack on the cable with the 8201, the LCD screen goes totally blank - like the remote function is overloading the PC. What's the secret to using the cassette port on the 8201? Have to manually start recorder all the time?

I got it figured out. Black one goes to the "ear" jack and the big grey one goes to the "mic" one. Can't use the remote plug as it's TOTALLY different between NEC and Tandy. So, yes, get to start and stop tape manually, no remote function.

Now I get to figure out if the black and the grey ones are reversed on the Tandys. I think they are.

Edit: The results are in! Yes indeed, black and grey connections are reversed on the Tandys. "Sometimes competition is a bad thing."
