Need a disk to use a model 4?

No, the Tandy 1000 doesn't have any ROM-based software at all (except mebbe a "boot-loader"). The good news is that it's IBM-compatible, so any ol' DOS disk will work. There's also no reason you can't add a hard drive to it if you wish (except for the EX & HX models). Just be sure that the hdd controller card is 3/4-length or shorter.
