What is the value of a real IBM 5160 XT from the spring of 1985 with:

Nice chassis, a very tiny amount of scuff, only spotable if you look at it with a magnifying glass. Used by a person who didn't smoke.
A 64/256KiB Motherboard with 256KiB of RAM, a real Intel 8088 @ 4.77MHz, and the original 11/08/82 BIOS.
One Floppy Disk Drive Controller/Adapter with 2 FullHeight 360KiB FDD's.
One MDA Adaptor with a not optimal [brightnes flickers sometimes and there is yoke noise], but working IBM 5151 monitor.
83 key Norwegian labbeled keyboard.

The system is working perfectly, no problems at all durning operation under normal conditions. I am currently borrowing this system, and I'm planning to make an offer for it. That is the reason why I ask for how mutch a such system is worth.

*Edit*
slightly wrong spelling corrected.

Since the screen is on its way out (its not a matter of if but when at this point) and since NORMALLY most people throw these things out (hence why they are rare) I would not pay $200 unless you REALLY REALLY want it and cannot find one in your area for a long time.

Generally i would say in the $50 area at most unless the guy is savy and you are desparate to get one. Also they do not all sell for hi dollar on ebay, several mostly from people who couldn't test were $10+ship. Only those with software, a good description and full testing sell for over $100. Locally I would expect to pay much less and many of the ones I got were out of the trash from local businesses.

Also the below system is a good example of what I described, any issues with it would be minor, true its missing the IBM screen but unless you don't care to use the above system your IBM screen is bound to end up non functional soon anyway (I had one with that behavior that lasted all of a month)

Good Luck, in the end its worth as much as you are willing to pay.

50 dollars sounds fine.

The problem with the monitor is problably some capacitors getting tired. Those capacitprs should be possible to change I think...

BTW, what do you mean with
several mostly from people who couldn't test were $10+ship

Oh, god, Bigdmclean won it. Arghh! I hate it when those little sh*** get ahold of that stuff. They buy it, and sell it for a price us norms can't afford. Well, before this turns to a rant...

One i was watching on eBay sold for $102: Link
And it DIDN'T come with any manuals. It was in nice shape. Then yet anotherm with no manuals as well, and in ratty condition sold for $112: Link. Both again had no manuals or disks. One had original drives, the other was clearly modified. But they both had color monitors. But the one Bigdmclean won had totally original (appearing, anyhow) floppy drives, a manual, and DOS disks. But only sold for $0.99. BUT, it came with a non-IBM amber monitor. Maybe the difference between a sale and none is a color monitor? Well, then again, I sold what was essentially and IBM PC XT (it was a 3270, possibly a rare model) sold for $100, and sold within 24Hrs of me listing it. It came with no manuals, no monitor, and a non-original yellowed keyboard. In the auction though, I was sure to let them know I am a geniune collector, not some sleazebag looking to make money, like Bigdmclean... Of course though, I offered links for information, copied disks of Windows 1.03 (The guy ended having me put them in folders on the HD) and was also sure to mention the wonderful command "ship.com" that I would initiate before shipping: Link.

The verdict? Hell I dunno, I just got up.

When buying and selling on Ebay, I think it goes for 100$ or more if the seller is unused to the current marked price at the same time he/she is realy desperate to get one.

I have one more question: Do you think the market price will rise or lower in the future (let's say 10+ years ahead)? and if that's the case, by how much?

As they aren't being made anymore. and the early IMB range were historically significant computers, prices are bound to rise slowly as they become rarer. By how much, who knows. With these kind of machines I think shipping costs has a big influence on the market because they are so damm heavy, unlike many early home computers.
