Hello my given name is Porter; however, I prefer to use the pseudonym of Chip. I've been using computers in some form or another since the age of five or six. Of course, I was born in 1988, which means I was closer to the beginning of the 386 and 486 generation and the beginning of the 9x series of the Windows operating system. All of this being said, my first exposure to computers did, in fact, come at the tail end of the DOS 6.22 era..

As my father purchased progressively more powerful computers for the family, we clawed our way out of the DOS and Windows 9.x era into Windows XP and further on into the newer Windows 7 , 8 , 8.1 , 10 and finally into the intel based Macs and then, eventually where computing now sits in the post Intel Mac era of Windows 11.x.

Welcome to VCFed, Chip! What specific interests do you currently have in vintage computing I wonder? Do you have any experience with the Media Center versions of the OSs you mentioned?

Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you here.
You are fortunate to have early exposure to mature systems.
I come from an era where one could not go to a store and buy a computer.
You needed a soldering iron. Much slower progress, and filled with more headaches!
