I don't need "authentic", I just despise Wintel hardware. The Pi sounds nice, but I like the Lantronix solution even better.

Well, if you're wanting a more "authentic" solution, then mine would be more accurate.

You're right, at least from the PoV of the C64; the Lantronix or bridge PC won't give you the sounds of the modem and it wouldn't be apparent whether you're connected to the local bridge or the remote server.

I'll still stick with my Lantronix'es though ;-)

But what would I run it on? I wouldn't run it on an Amiga, nor a Sparcstation. If I buy something small, quiet, and not Wintel, that runs Linux, then I still have to mess around with Linux just for that application.

I've tried a bunch of times but have never successfully logged in. I am able to load up the qlink software and connect to the ip/port, but I never get past the connection screen and just get an ever-increasing number of + characters displayed. Any ideas?

I managed to get on this weekend using one of my Link232-Wifi carts, just to see if I could.
I looked around a bit, and there wasn't much there, and trying to start people connect hung my machine.


To use a modern device, you need to set a phone number alias, or do a manual dial.

CCGMS 2020 has a qlink patcher bundled in the zip file that allows swiftlink, and 2400 baud. (Sorry kids, that's the max).

Tried it again just now and getting the same thing. I have my WiFi modem set to 1200 baud, with the correct hostname/port spoofed to 555-1212 and I can see on the oled screen that it's connecting successfully, but then I just get endless plusses.
