Following Erik's post at Retrochat notifying members of this site, here is a brief breakdown of our site for the members here.

Retrochat is located at www.retrochat.com.

The forums are fronted by a portal dedicated to chat for computers, gaming and the consoles of yesteryear. These are all housed within one large forum that is sub-divided into multiple areas.

The forums have been open since January 2003 and although young, are looking for new members. Currently we have over 350 members.

Drop by and say hello and meet other likeminded people into emulation, computers and retro gaming.

If you haven't been over to Retrochat you are missing out.

They have set up a very nice, very useful site!

Na! Nothing going on in the Amstrad
section. Some Amiga guy in there
talking about Xenon!

Looks nice, but your's looks much
friendlier to use & has that 'Other'
section for virtually any machine
(apart from the ones mentioned).
So posting Jupiter Ace querys in
there is much harder. On the plus,
they have more people there.
Aaauuugggh! :-(

Not any longer, since the site changed its name and target group slightly to Killer Gamers (www.killergamers.com).

The portal software has been updated, but it still is one of the most confusing web portals I have used, where it is very easy to log in but almost impossible to log out (unless you know on exactly which page there is a log out link).

Ah!!, that's the site I was looking for. Can't be much of
a forum if they change sites & don't even let you know
where they moved too.

It's far more restrictive than what it once was (you
need to register to do anything!)-:

Maybe better left alone than trying to mess around with
them! ;-)

Technically, I believe phpBB (the software this forum uses) can also be configuered to require logging in to even browse messages.

Btw, this is the message I received on June 28th 2004:

You are receiving this email because you have not been to visit us for a while. As most of you know Retrochat/Killergamers was closed and the database was moved over to MT2. We still have all the original forums covering everything retro in the gaming world.

We also have a massive flash arcade with over 230 flash games. Members can compete in tournaments with other members to win some virtual cash!

So come along and see what you are missing out on!
Hope to see you soon and thanks for reading.

which indicates that their members who found the old site gone since many months ago automagically should know where they had moved. :)

I hate forums that change location and names all the time, you never build a stable community when that happens.

Believe it or not, but after struggling with moronic domain registrants for a few weeks, Moe has now finally found himself a new name and domain for the mentioned site.

It is now available at http://www.retrocade.net/ which is not so far from the old retrochat (which AFAIU makes up 1/2 of the new site community).

Unknown K, I know what you're going to say.

Totally amazing - as a way to get more activity, today the mentioned site/forum/community has removed all members (or at least non-paying ones) and asked them to re-register, as the database was full of idle accounts which cost too much capacity. Posting twice a week on an almost dead forum was not enough to survive the cleanout.

I hope Erik never decides to flush the whole user database as a step to get more activity in this community.. :x

I think that's a dubious tactic as well, but the email I got was that I had never posted so my account was deleted. The email suggested that a single post would leave my account intact. . .

Oh, well. I can sort-of understand.

Wouldn't like it? I've tried PMing some of those non-responcive
members & they don't even respond to those, nor do they look
at them. So I figure, they have either changed their e-mail, or
they are using a valid e-mail, but one they don't look at as a
form of Spam trapping.

I thought it'd be nice, because we can keep the people who do
write all together & fling the ones who are simply using space
to keep their names alive. Course that won't happen unless
space becomes a high priority.

CP/M User.

My first webpage (which wasn't much), got changed. But it was
one of those free webspace providers. The address was
members.xoom.com or something like that, but this NBCi or
someone took it over & deleted my stuff. Sure it wasn't much
of a site & I didn't have links to search engines to it. With my new
site: http://www.geocities.com/cpm22_user/ I've been trying to
get some search engines (e.g. Google) to pick it up, unfortunately
I'm not sure if they are just taking their time updating that task
or it wasn't processed properly. I just hope they don't cancel sites
because no-ones goes to them (like my ol' site).

Cheers,
CP/M User.

Bad enough they changed servers on me, but at the same time, they changed from a web-based interface to an FTP-based one, and so far I haven't been able to figger out how to upload any files to it.

Yes, but in my case, I have posted at least once or twice a week since July until now, so I was not an idler... never mind.

What you should do is find a program called WS_FTP which is a
program designed to upload files to a FTP server. If you already
have a Current account with them, then you should be able to
use your username & password to upload files into their server.

Do you have a URL? For example if you address is
members.myisp.com/terry_yager when you use WS_FTP you tell
it this website along with your usename & password, it should
take to straight to it.

Good Luck,
CP/M User.

Oh, so you got deleted from their account as well??
