(Note: I'm getting this second-hand but from a good source, so it is time to share it.)

Chuck(G) has been a long-time member of the forum, a prolific poster, and a wonderful source of knowledge. Some of you have noticed that Chuck(G) has been quiet lately, and I'm saddened to announce that he passed away a few weeks ago. I personally was aware that he was facing some health challenges but I did not know the extent of them.

Chuck had a long career and is well known for his time at Sydex, where he worked on low-level tools for floppy disks. He seemed to know every format for every platform. To say he was an active participant here is an understatement - he had over 46,000 posts since joining us in 2007. He was also active on the ClassicCmp mailing list for years, and I'm sure he popped up in other places as well. His knowledge was not limited to computers either; he was well versed in many topics.

I don't have any further information at this time. I'm going to try to find the name of an appropriate charity and post it here for those of you who want to remember Chuck in that way.

Chuck will be missed is being missed.

Chuck was a long time friend. Recently he had been undergoing lengthy treatment for a very rare bone disease and suffered from horrific pain and discomfort.

It goes with out saying, but this forum will never see the likes of Chuck Guzis again. Rest in peace, Chuck.

I had been wondering about him lately after not seeing any posts from him for a while when he used to post here all of the time. Looks like his last post was in early May.

He had posted here some about his battle with cancer. It sounded like it was pretty tough going, then he was back here for a while.

OH, VERY Sorry To Hear That. I was a REGISTERED USER of his 22DISK, and submitted the
Allen Bradley Advisor CP/M Definition, along with Lots of the Montezuma Micro CP/M Definitions.

I RESPECTED the Ownership of his 22DISK CP/M Definitions by not Publishing his work in my
Github Postings of the multitude of 22DISK CP/M Definitions. His work with CP/M and his knowledge
will be missed forever. Those of you who have known him from this Forum know of only a little bit of his
Life, and how helped so many folks struggling to get knowledge of accessing CP/M in their Work over they
Years. He made many things possible to access CP/M files via DOS along with many tidbits of code that
worked, and is still working today, which is 50+ years later.

GOD BLESS you CHUCK, and Lots of us will be seeing you sooner that we think. I know I can't Wait to
Say "THANKS" and shake your Hand. What a Homecoming that will be!

When he didn't reply to my last couple of PM's I had a fear that he may have passed, but I didn't want to start a thread about it just yet still hoping he was recovering. This place surely isn't the same without him. If you are the praying type, please pray for Chuck's wife that she is lifted up.

Chuck was a great long-term supporter of the Computer History Museum and helped us on many gnarly data recovery operations, as well as being the #1 person we sent people seeking that to. He was always so helpful and kind too. Really a good guy. Rest in peace, Chuck... and thank you.

Chuck had experience with an incredible number of formats and media types. As someone who has derped through a number of oddball floppy disk formats, I can appreciate that, and that much of that knowledge and experience is now gone.

I'd still love to know the details of the exotic disk formats for some of those Gene Roddenberry disks they sent to him. I'm still assuming they were encoded in Klingon.

Tape drives, micro stepping, custom microcontrollers, uncommon media types. Physically viewing the layout of magnetic media with some kind of iron dust. He worked with so much stuff.

I've sometimes joked about how quiet, formal, and intelligent this forum is - and how one of the biggest flame wars that I recall involved him arguing about cryptographic cracking algorithms, (or something vaguely along those lines, it was a way while back) for use in decoding some obscure undocumented foreign language word processing format.

My last message to him went unanswered; so out of character for him. So I started to worry. Watching cctalk daily for his signature, none came. Rest easy, old friend. Thank you for all the patience and knowledge you shared. We're going to have to figure the rest of this stuff out with all you've given us.

That is very sad to hear. He had alluded to his illness a few times here, but always in passing and seemed determined to not let it stop doing what he was passionate about. He was an amazing individual. He was not only fount of knowledge regarding forty year old tech trivia, he also was clearly interested in keeping fresh with modern developments. He will be missed, and I am sorry that I never actually got to know him better.
