Sharp PC-6220

Sorry to resurrect an old thread...but I'm starting to restore one of these machines.

On power on, I get no Power LED, but the Battery and Charge LEDs do light up. Apart from that its dead (the battery is very dead!).

I've now disassembled it and discovered that one of the surface mount caps the main PCB has fallen off, and I imagine the remaining 7 aren't far behind. I'll be replacing all these!

Does the PSU section need to be connected to the main board to work, or can I test it in isolation? I assume it'll need re-capping too, but I'd like to get a baseline before I start work on it...

cheers

Paul

Hi, I assume you found the service manual?
I recommend studying the psu circuit diagram. I can't recall if I got mine repaired while disconnected from the main board. I may have and it sounds reasonable.

The connector for the psu to the maon board is a bit fragile.

My psu definitely had some damage from caps leaking but I did manage to fix it. My machine only runs on external power now. It's been reliable!

Good luck.

Hi, yes I have the service manual. TBH the caps in the PSU don't look too bad, on initial examination at least. It the surface mount caps on the main board that are completely knackered. 2 (so far) have just fallen doff the board.

This will be an interesting resurrection...
