Here, it's really more about purpose and intent, rather than variety. That is, the Yamaha MU50 is primarily for XG playback, the Roland MT-32 for "LA" playback, and the Roland SC-55 for GM and GS playback.
I'm also routing the output of the SB16 installed in the TL/3 through the MU50. Compared to other XG modules, the MU50's input is non-effected, but it does provide external analog volume control and visual feedback of the SB16 output, while also saving me the need for yet another analog input (and subsequent need for a mixer) elsewhere. Similarly, the output from the MT-32 is routed through the SC-55.
