Delayed TOS screen, 15 - 20, amidst "burps" undoubtedly the floppy trying to read (it's empty). It stays on for a while, then reboots and starts the shenanigans all over again! My mashoogunna Atari I call it.

ST always takes ages to boot if no disk in drive. Try a blank 720k disk, should then crash much more quickly...

Can't be true, I have another one where the TOS screen appears in a few seconds.

Both of my 1040STs search for a disk in drive A for about 20 seconds or so before the desktop appears when first powered up. Leaving a disk in the drive cuts that down to nearly nothing.

It might be that the one unit that boots fast has a disconnected drive? It's bouncing around inside. I'm just amazed and elated both work. Now I can pull the p/s from one of these and test my 1040stf and that French 520st Mobo.
