Hello Fellow Brits,

So, no new posts for about two years, so what have you been up to?
I must admit that i'm still trawling the web for more information, details, contacts with people who had any connection with my old GEC 4070 Minicomputer and it's systems.
It's amazing to me that in the US there is a huge following of companies like DEC and people have user groups and all sorts to keep the interest going. Here in the UK we seem to have (nearly) lost all interest in hobbies of any sort (including restoring and keeping old and interesting equipment going).
What are your thoughts on this?

Cheers,
Alan.

Yep,

This about shows the current state of the UK Vintage computer interest !! :(
Is there nobody out there even checking out this section of the Forum?

Alan.

Proud owner of a British GEC 4070 Minicomputer.

I look in occasionally mainly when i remember to!, I think the UK Vintage computer interest has been thin on the ground for a long time compared to our friends across the pond, Over here it's much harder to get hold of stuff these days :-(

I think I'd completely echo the comments about the state of the hobby in the UK - however in truth that should make this section more invaluable. One thing we should each be doing is helping each other as much as possible - in terms of support, advice, assistance and perhaps most importantly acquisitions. I'd like to see each of us drawing attention to any really nicely priced or rare items for sale in the UK. It would be helpful if we had a better idea what the others in this group specialise on, and what things might be most appropriate to who.

Im trying to put more time into the hobby, and have been working on my website at http://www.micromuseum.co.uk.

As you will soon gather Im not really into the big stuff like PDP-11s etc, but concentrate largely on 1980s home computers, though my collection has major holes in it at the moment - Acorn Atom, Oric Atmos, Oric One, and my biggest interest of all is the Camputers Lynx! Im gradually improving my tools and infrastructure, and whilst I only know a bit about electronics Im learning all the time and keen to learn more.

My email address is chris@micromuseum.co.uk, and my phone number is 01633-869564. If you fancy a chat, please give me a call. It would be nice if we could get to know each other better, and make the most of the hobby, which lets face it was very notable, and somewhat unique in the UK.

Chris.
