Not sure if this was vintage enough so posting it here: Rack mount Sony StorStation AIT Library LIB-162. The unit was stored in a dry indoor environment. Comes as pictured. No additional accessories, cables, or paperwork included. Unit has NOT been power tested and will require maintenance before use. SOLD FOR PART AND/OR REPAIR OR FOR DISPLAY. Sold as is where is. Payment on pickup in cash.

Does this device seem to be able (per docs I can find) to hold internally, 16 tapes inside itself? Tapes are still available for about $8 apiece it seems.

Yes I had one of these in the early 2000s. It works only as a library in that you need software to manage the loading/unloading (there are front panel controls for manually controlling it). Whereas the smaller 8 tape version would also work as an autoloader so when you hit the end of the tape the device would switch to the next tape and continue writing without returning an error to the writer. Extremely reliable, especially if you're comparing it against Exabyte Mammoth 2 :-)

Do you by any chance still have the SW and can post it? I am almost positive this one does not come with any SW. Or will it work with generic (e.g. Veritas/Backup Exec) library SW?
 
I don't think it came with any, at least none for Solaris anyway. From what I can remember I hacked something together using the open source version of rmt. Today I'd probably try something like Bacula as the first step.
