It isn't possible to make the plastic flexible again.

No, but you can reinforce it to some degree so that it is a little bit less likely to snap suddenly.

That could mean anything from melting a piece of wire mesh into thicker plastics to simply adhering a piece of flexible material to the back of thinner plastics.

Basically anything you can do to reduce/distribute the mechanical force applied to a particular part.

Traditional laptop hinges use a metal bracket hinge with a spring that is secured with screws (or an adhesive) to the upper and lower shell/case. A handful of things can cause them to seize up and require additional force to open and close, which often ends up destroying the case when the plastic gets old and brittle enough.
