Hey everyone.. curious anyone know why the Tadiran 3.6 lithium TL-5134, 5135, and some others have one positive in the middle and two negative connections? I am attempting to wire an "off the motherboard" connection and can the two negatives be wired as one connection to a different style battery (lithium 3.6v) with just a negative and positive?

I've just soldered 3 blank headers where the three connections were so I can easily wire an external one up.. I had a different board where the battery exploded and destroyed the board.. kind of like Macintosh battery bombed boards..

Well no input from anyone :( I did end up connecting the center positive and the top negative and it works just fine. I wired the battery externally to a holder so it can be removed easily if the system is stored and forgotten..

But another question I have is there a method I could use to fake the system into thinking a CMOS battery is installed and isn't? Obviously this is not a production system and is from 1989 so having a CMOS battery for the RTC is not very important to me., plus nothing else depends on this battery otherwise really. Is it possible to install something to fake out the system into thinking a battery is installed? I was thinking of a supercapacitor... but I want to install something that no one has to worry about exploding and destroying the motherboard. I have another motherboard from one which the battery did explode and ruined a really nice motherboard. I'm only asking this because I have other systems and I don't want to wire an external battery for everyone of them.
