Curious as to whether anyone here has played around with the TMS1000 MPU? I was digging into my meters to grab one for another look, remembered I had this one, and grabbed this one as well.

This board was part of a register that displayed regular kWH and 'premium' kWH (an early time-of-day / time-of-use application). This board operated a small solenoid via the red reed relay in the corner. The white stripe is one of those very early 7-segment displays with the built-in magnifiers, and the three pushbutton switches are marked 'on', 'off', and 'scroll'. As far as I can figure, this was more of a 'proof of concept' that never advanced to actual production as there is no type designator on the register itself, nor does the cover have any way of actuating the switches.

Haven't decided yet if this is worth reverse-engineering the schematic or not. I'm assuming the connector just right of the relay is the programming port.

To answer my own question - I only ever found the one copy of the TMS1000 datasheet from 1979.

It stated clearly that this MPU is mask-programmed at TI, and there is also a PLA on one set of outputs.

In other words, the TMS1000 has to be considered an ASIC even though it has its own assembly language.
