In the mid 80's I used to go to the Trenton Computer Fest in April, held
at the Trenton State College parking lot. There were acres of tables
where used and new computer gear would bake in the spring sun all
day. I remember all kinds of retro computers, piles of them, especially
the lime green all-in-one terminals that would be selling for $1.

I bought parts to make my first first Franklin Ace 1200 at the fair. Once
when I was carrying tons of computer parts, including two floppy drives
under one arm, one of the floppy drives slipped out and was falling to
the asphalt when a nearby computer nerd threw himself to the ground
to catch it. What reflexes!! Those were the days.

I have a small collection but nothing special. Its hard to get too jazzed on
old computers when I vividly remember spending an entire Sunday typing
in a Basic computer game  into my Vic20, then dubugging, then watching
the crappy game play out. I kept the machine on for the next day because
I didn't have a tape storage to save it to. I turned it off finally. Then I bought a C64 and rest is history.
Hard to image I spent $1,600 once for an XT!

Ah yes, the annual "pilgrimage"...
It's interesting that you mention it now, because TCF is only a couple of weeks away (May 1 and 2): http://tcf-nj.org/

I remember the TCF well.

I went a couple of times, at least. I got a really good start on my magazine collection there with cord-bound bundles of magazines for pennies a pound.

I also missed out on a deal there that I still regret to this day (a very nice Altair system in a rolling rack that I wanted but couldn't transport.)

Remind me to tell you about the time I had to ride home from TCF (2+ hours) in the front seat of my friend's Camaro, with a Kaypro 2 on my lap the entire way.

Trenton Computer Festival will have Vintage Computer Exhibit

Are you aware that the Mid-Atlantic Retro Computers and hand-helds (MARCH) members will be bringing vintage computers for an exhibit at this year's convention April 16, 17 2005?

The Yahoo group name is midatlanticretro if you're interested in joining and live off the I95 corridor between CT and MD. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/midatlanticretro/

Personally I am going to bring a Commodore VIC-20 system, peripherals, literature, and related materials for my share of the exhibit. I am also bringing a lot of swap/give away stuff from my collection. I will probably also bring some diagnostic stuff in the event we have need for on-the-spot repairs.

We have at least 5 exhibits and growing.

MARCH and TCF....

MARCH and TCF....

Actually that's "Mid-Atlantic Retro Computing Hobbyists"... LOL yes I'm a handhelds guy but that is hardly worth putting in the group name.

Chris, where were you from out here?
