Does anyone perhaps recognise this old Western Digital MFM hard drive?
There are no model numbers on this drive.
I want to low level format the drive but, I need to know the model number so that I can try and obtain the settings for the drive if I want to dynamically configure it.

Got this today with an old Olivetti M19 but, it's giving me an 1701 error.
Either the drive isn't configured properly or, it's had its day.
The light does come on when it boots up but, then nothing further.

Do you see any other information on it? I can only find a single MFM hard drive from Western Digital which is 21 MB (615x4x17). Model is WD 262 in 5.25" mounting; WD 362 when sold for 3.5" mounting. Same model was originally available from Tandon so there might be a Tandon label hidden under the WD sticker.

I'll take a closer look.
The drive powers on, I can hear the heads unparking, and then the hard drive just shuts down by itself.
Even tried connecting another PSU but, the same symptoms.

Very often, the drive shutting down by itself means that it didn't reach operating speed or the positioner can't find "home" (sometimes an optical sensor).

Any way one can fix it?

From the outside, you can check that the stepper motor gets all the phases to step it. I've seen the drive transistors fail.
Not much else without opening it up. That would best be done in a laminar flow test bench to avoid dust.
