Unmarked Heathkit/Zenith 89 with a brightness dial?

Of course I don't know, but I do not think that is a factory installation. I also doubt it is a brightness control. I'm guessing it is a volume knob for a DIY amplifier that was added (maybe the "line in" originates from an I/O board). It would be easier if you could get inside, but you can't unless it ends up that you are the buyer.

It most certainly did not come from the factory like that.
You will need to open up your H89 and take a look at what this control is wired to.

Anybody familiar with the warning in place of the manufacturer’s badge?
Just put there by the user? The workplace it was installed at?

Or was there a machine produced for a third party to attach to another item, like a CNC machine, or medical device?

That looks like the standard H89 warning sticker. Placing it on the front is probably where it needs to be if many people were using the machine and needed a constant reminder... It's all too easy to get in the habit of setting things down on the top. I've seen them in less flattering locations on the front. Possibly the sticker is over the manufacturers label. The company I worked for had replacement nameplates with our logo made up to replace the Zenith ones. I don't know how often customers got those, but the ones around the shop had them. Had an OEM arrangement with Zenith.

Ok. I should have said where it is.
