Versions of HP-UX 10.20

I have an HP 9000 D350 that is (I believe) capable of running properly. It does start the IPL and leave me in the menu to select the boot path, etc.
The issue is I was able to find a version of HP-UX 10.20 but it does not seem to load on this machine and I read in another forum that there were different versions of HP-UX for the 700 and 800 series machines (maybe workstation and server)? I cannot really verify that as HP has kind of locked away that information.

I was wondering if anyone here could confirm or deny that idea? I have been searching for versions of 10.20 online, and have not come up with much, but I have time so as I wander through the shows, etc. I can keep watching to see if any pop up.

Thanks a bunch!

This page says that a D350 is also known as an HP 9000/831 server, and that the supported HP-UX versions are:

HP-UX 11i v1 in 32-bit or 64-bit mode, in EOE, FOE, MCOE version
HP-UX 11.00 in 32-bit or 64-bit mode
HP-UX 10.20 32-bit, server version

https://www.openpa.net/systems/hp-9000_d-class_r-class.html

This page says that different HP-UX 10.20 releases were made for HP 9000 700 workstations and HP 9000 800 servers.

Here is one CD image for the workstation version of HP-UX 10.20

https://archive.org/details/hp-ux-r...july-1996-series-7xx-b-c-j-class-b-3782-10101

From a quick look I don't see any CD images there for the server version of HP-UX 10.20

This page says that the HP Computer Museum has a CD image of B3782 HP-UX 10.20 for 9000/800, but you need to contact them to be able to download it from them:

There is a CD image for HP-UX 11.00 available here, which appears to be for both the Series 700 workstations and the Series 800 servers. Maybe you could try that and see if it works on your HP 9000 D350, and if you want to try the server version of HP-UX 10.20 see if you can get that from the HP Computer Museum.

What do you mean by "does not seem to load"? What messages do you get?
I will try re-loading the software I have and get the relevant message it returns, it seems to be hardware related, and from the reply by gslick, it seems that the version I downloaded from Archive.org is for b-c-j classes. I thought it might load anyway, but without some of the relevant docs, I might be at it a while.

That is a pretty spectacular find on the HP Computer Museum! I actually have been doing several searches determined to find more information, but never came across that one!
I did contact them to see if it was possible to obtain, along with the documentation.

I appreciate all the help! I really want to get this machine booting again, it has been in my small server collection for a long time I would like to see it running!

Thank you,
GregS

Very interesting..Sorry for my ignorance but am new here, I have around 4 or 5 working HP-C360 HP-UX with
Gerber CAD CAM loaded, and also all the manuals.

I have worked on one of those C360's at a customer making furniture. had to make him a custom post processor of sorts on that machine to support a slightly different kind of cnc (not gerber). Are yours for fabric cutting or graphics cutting, by chance?

I have tried that D350 with the software from the HP museum (they were very kind and sent over their disc downloads right away) and the machine started to generate some error messages and then shut down. I believe I have to go through the hardware a bit and make sure that I do not have any bad memory, or incompatible cards and start with a basic configuration. A good clean up will help.

It's definitely true that there were different versions for different series - ran into that myself when setting up my C200 - but IIRC they're all on archive.org somewheres. The other roadblock that I ran into, which consumed hours of my weekend, was that the HP-UX installer technically offers many options for configuration...but they never seem to have tested them. I reinstalled that damn thing like five or six times and it was only when I finally tore my robes, sprinkled ashes on my sackcloth, and just did a default-options install that I actually got a functioning system. The only thing I was able to successfully tweak was the disk partitioning :/

Awesome to read, yes well I am a CNC programmer, and yes pretty much could program any CNC with it, 3 to 5 axis aerospace parts 2d 3d fabric, metal you name it. When I have time I can fire one up and show some pics here if you like.
