Asking my fellow VCF'ers, couldn't a competent TV repair shop work on this sort of thing? Oddly enough in my small city of Plattsburgh we actually have a TV repair shop still open.

Yes if you can find the right shop, What i mean is one that's been around for many years, Old school type that actually repaired at board level, Not like the ones around today that 'replace' and don't repair, Many years ago there was a couple of shops near me that repaired my monitors, Did a good job and charged a very reasonable price but all long gone now.
