As I have a paper tape reader but no puncher yet, I'm looking for someone who can do odd jobs now and then printing off paper tape data files from an ASR33 or similar. Please PM me and/or respond in the thread, as other users may wish to take advantage of similar services.

I'm sure there are folks here with that capability and certainly some on the classiccmp list. Your location might aid others in figuring out where the work originates.

The punch on the ASR33 really isn't suitable for mass punching. It needs oiled tape, but as Chuck says saying where you are might help.
I can punch tape but I am in the UK.

Dey have class in da UP, eh?

If all goes right, I should have the capability and ambition in a couple months. But that doesn't help you in the short term, and if things don't go right, doesn't help you at all.

Yup! They got all sorts'a classes. Maple Syrup makin'. Maple Syrup Tree tappin'. Maple Syrup Recipe theory. Got a class for every interest!

In all seriousness, I won't need any tape for a couple of months, anyhow. The darned machine I'm getting isn't going to ship for a couple of days, and it'll take me at least a month to even begin to reverse engineer the thing (thank goodness for 2-layer PCBs and DIP, eh?) to the point I can whip up some hardware and code it to a point where paper tape spools on-hand will be useful.

In the meantime: if you can figure out how to print .pt files to a TTY, that might be something useful to look into. I found a huge library of DEC software online (can't think of where it is offhand) but everything is stored in .pt files, which notepad can't read quite right and nothing else I've found can read them right. There's a clear as day title, but the data after that is likely just raw binary, I'm guessing.

It might also be worth asking on the CCTALK and/or greenkeys lists. (just google them). Whilst lots of us are on both, or even all three, I think some of the folks with the older stuff "don't do" forums...
