Wave Mate Bullet boot disks

Hi,
Does anyone have some Wave Mate Bullet boot disks?

I have one of these computers but am missing the boot disks.

The computer uses soft sector floppy disks so I don't need a physical copy, just an image made with ImageDisk or TeleDisk.

If anyone could make an image of their 5.25" or 8" boot disks, I would much appreciate it.

5.25" boot disks would be better as this computer has two but some people use 8" disks with the WMBs. If it were possible, just attach a 5.25" drive to the WMB and format a disk, SYSGEN it and make an image of it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi,
Yes, there is a zip file on the page which has all the files for CP/M 3 on the Wave Mate Bullet but it does not contain the boot tracks.

What I need is a boot disk of any sort which will boot my Wave Mate Bullet (Motherboard Rev C). It came with 5.25" 96tpi floppy drives but I can retrofit it to accomodate 48tpi floppy drives easily.

There are some other owners around but most are using 8" floppy drives. Even an image of one of those boot disks might work. I don't know but would gladly try!

Thanks!

Well I was having a good google too, and came up with the same site, but a broken link, Gaby found a file with nothing pointing to it, so has re-made the link
and it's this...

http://www.cpm.z80.de/download/cpm3-.zip

but that apparently doesn't help you. sorry

If it does end up being for the wavemate or not, can you give me an email, and I'll pass on the news.

I sent a note to Gaby to see if she recalls where she got the file. There is probably somebody out there with a Wave Mate Bullet who could make a boot disk for me.

Thanks for the help!

From what I understand, a 1.2MB 5.25" with 1.2MB media could be used to replace an 8" floppy? Similar geometry, and 360rom rotational speed...

And as the the archives, yeah, unfortunately, alot of people have made archives done with 22Disk, instead of imaging. Basically renderes the archives useless, unless one knows how to get that code over, but even then, the needed CBIOS and CCP are on the boot track, not visible files on the disk, correct?

Shark,
I think you have the right idea. The archive is a dump of all the files in the file system but none of the hidden boot tracks necessary for booting the system. Assuming I can find one for this computer, I may be able to use those files to augment a bootable disk.

Apparently the Wave Mate Bullet computers were more popular in Europe than in the US so I am hoping something will show up over there. There are a few owners/former owners scattered about but not many.

The SBC is almost entirely fully soldered components which is going to make debugging and repair troublesome.

Thanks!

Sorry, was a bit slow responding, that was the right zip file, I stumbled upon an unofficial mirror quite by chance.
Gaby suggests you post to comp.os.cpm, or alt.folklore.computers........

..... too slow to catch a cold, just done a search for "cpm boot track" in an attempt to understand more about the anatomy of the boot track, and guess whose name came up!

Hi All,

Just a quick follow up on this thread. I was finally able to locate some WMB boot disks and they work. Of course, I had to fix the WMB motherboard first. It seems the DART had died which made serial communications with the console rather, well, nonexistent.

Unfortunately, the motherboard is all soldered components except for the Z80 DMA for some reason. I replaced the bad DART with a 40 pin socket and a new DART and the old beauty came back to life. Not too many WaveMate Bullets around these days.

I have a lot of WMB documentation, boot disks, files, disk images, etc and some spare parts. If anyone cares or is interested, please let me know. I am considering starting another mini-mailing list for interested WMB owners although I suspect there are very few still around.

Thanks for all your help! I do appreciate it!

Hi,

Another follow up post. I was able to recover another WaveMate Bullet from the scrap pile and repair it. It had a bad CPU and some other parts. I placed some photos, useful files, manuals, schematics, boot disk image, etc at:

http://groups.google.com/group/wavemate_computers

There is a mailing list if anyone cares to discuss WaveMate computers. Thanks!

Hi Andrew,

I am looking for a WMB boot disks image. I've obtained an 'IBS compact computer' ( containing a Wave Mate Bullet board with two 5 1/4 floppy drives), but without software. I've downloaded the zip files from the links in this topic, but found no (hidden) boot files to create a bootable image.
If you have a disk image for a bootfloppy I am interested. Thank you in advance !
