We need suggestions, from you, on user titles

I had the idea last night for these

1kb RAM
2kb RAM
4kb RAM
8kb RAM
.
.
.
.
512kb RAM
640kb RAM

And stop there (since no one needs more than 640kb).

how many levels can we have? Does anyone have more posts than ChuckG as far as reaching the top?

I don't know how many levels there can be, but I'd shoot to keep it around 10 levels, my RAM idea would only need 11 levels.

It’s always the capacitor. Just like vintage computers and radios. ;)

But seriously it might be. They are dirt cheap so I always keep a spare. If the A/C goes out, just the outside condenser unit, I pop the cover off and look for bulging. If it looks good you can discharge it and test it with a multimeter. Some hvac guys suggest doing it every year, and if it gets out of the printed tolerance replace it even if it’s still working.

OT, but I wonder if one can still find NOS GE Pyranol capacitors. Yes, they contain PCBs, but on the other hand, they last for decades. Mostly, I've found that the non-PCB start/run capacitors on my heat pump slowly decline in capacitance, rather than short out. It only takes a few years with modern motor caps so that they exhibit less than half their nameplate capacitance, which increases the current draw and shortens the compressor life.

Might be worth a hunt. I had a GE cap in mine, but I don’t know the model or PCB content, and it lasted 18 years. Not knowing anything about “why” I just figured they were good, so I tied to find another. Turns out the GE caps are gentec or something like that now. I had to replace it again about 2 or 3 years later. If it goes bad again maybe finding an NOS GE would be the way to go.

This should really be spun off as a new topic.

It turned out to be a capacitor and the system was almost 4 lbs low. Keeping this this going is expensive. I think its time to upgrade. BTW it was a GE capacitor.

Lutiana if your ram level pans out change 1KB to 256 or 512 bytes... I think thats a better starting place than 1kb.

I might be nice if we had some way to post messages about users. You know short 1 liners. It should be such that the person can delete messages that they feel are in bad taste or don't want.
Sometimes, I'd like to post things like "respected knowledge" or "great for Commodore Pets ". Also, the user could post lings for them selves, like "I don't fix PCs" or such. One could then click on a users and see what others said about them or what they said about themselves.
Like I said, the user should be able to remove anything they find offensive. The intent is to keep things positive. You know like the saying goes, "I you can say anything good, don't say anything at all".
Anyway, such a thing would have more meaning than things like "Senior Member". I feel in some ways I'm more than a Senior Member and in some ways less of a Senior Member.

Should have the area of interest/expertise as well as a 'post count' based

So something user selectable like hardware guru, software guru, repair specialist

People can lists interests and specialties if we had an area for signature like other forums. Should have nothing to do with post count and should be written by the user.

TBH, tl;dr - i didn't read all the submissions, and there seemed to be some off-topic posts too.

As for user titles, i don't really care a great deal, whatever comes out of the box is fine with me. However, many forums give users the power to create their own title, so I'd suggest that once you pass a certain number of posts (let's say 500), users can then automatically have the permission for a custom title should they wish.

I still don't see the need as a title really does nothing here. But if others like it then so be it. Didn't seem to do much before the change though. Maybe the above post has merits to allow the user to set their own title after a specified number of posts.

The only real use I can see for them is that it gives you a sense of how many posts a user has made, which could be handy in some situations. But you are right, for the most part they are cosmetic. I just figured why not make them on topic cosmetic things, if they have to be there, why not.

Then I would vote for some default title for a new user up to whatever limit is decided. Then I prefer the user to be able to make his own title. Seems they will pick something appropriate I would hope. But this may not be as easy to implement.

Looks like there are some special ones out there. I see Chuck is “25k member” and I think I saw a “10k member” when looking up someone.

I like the idea of custom titles instead of just the defaults. I’m not sure what they should be, but perhaps if you hit a certain threshold, time or posts or something, is there an option to create your own? I always got a chuckle out of Brutman’s associate cat herder or whatever it was. I’d be curious to see what other come up with.
If this ends up being done, I do like this suggestion quite a lot.
