It's Hitachi. I have the exact same unit.
I like how there's still a guy who rebuilds CED cartridges for less than it costs to buy some phonograph needles these days.

Who is he? Now I've got to tear my house apart and find my dud cartridge! (Maybe I'll find my Megacart in the process)!
 
Yea that stylus doesn't look familiar. Definitely different than the RCA I remember. The stylus is actually elongated and glides on top of the recorded wave and the back of the stylus is a metal strip that is like one plate of a capacitor. The recorded disc is conductive and the undulating groove is the other plate of the capacitor so you actually have a variable capacitor tuning an oscillator that forms an FM signal. Quite an ingenious design. The R & D took too many years to develop and the optical laser system was born and overtook it.
 
Yes. Contrary to popular opinion, the stylus does not contact the recorded information at all. Very ingenious.
