What is this? Post Photos of Mystery Items Here (vintage computers only)

Hi there,

Here's a handful of new pictures with machines I cannot identify. The screenshots are taken from some Spanish and Italian films. Again any help will be much appreciated.

1. 'Las chicas' (1982)
The Philips brand is clearly visible at the top right corner of the keyboard. But I'm very hesitant about the code/model at the left.

2. 'Los gusanos no llevan bufanda' (1989)
I'm also curious about the shooter game.

3. 'Deprisa, deprisa' (1980)
This machine is shown during a robbery in a bank. Unfortunately, it is only visible behind a glass.

4. 'Policia' (1987)

5. 'Todo por la pasta' (1991)

#3 is a NCR 279 teller terminal from the mid to late 70’s. Worked on 100’s of them.

Not mine, but I saw this on Ebay- https://www.ebay.com/itm/376474367101
Anybody recognize that funky plug or the keyboard?
Looks like the plug on the back of a lot of Model M keyboards. Except this is going away from the keyboard. That plug was used quite a bit in point-of-sale stuff, but it's clearly an early-80s home computer chicklet keyboard, no way would something that cheap be used for PoS, especially without a ten key keypad.

Great info! I truly appreciate it. As I pointed out, I even had more doubts about this machine because of the poor quality of the picture.

I think that connector is called SDL. I’ve seen it on IBM, Compaq, and HP. There were probably others too.

I’m pretty sure I have a cable that is SDL on both end.

Edit: here it is. Looks likes it’s clear on one end and smoked on the other, so perhaps it’s not straight through? Not really sure.

That might be where this cable came from. When I was younger I had piles of HP workstations that were being thrown out by the local community college. I seem to recall some having some sort of breakout box between the computer and the keyboard/mouse.

The keyboard is for the AT&T Personal Terminal 510A. I bought one from the same seller who bought all of them from a Bell Employee estate sale out East earlier this year.
I did a big writeup a few years back when I bought my necked terminal and you can see in the photos the receiving socket for the keyboard cable.

Yep, you're right and I'm definately wrong. That purple-red 'dial it' key tricked me, looked like it could have come off a early '90s logic analyzer.

I'm trying to document the PC/4000 and PC/5000 handheld computers made by Micro Palm Computers in the late 80s. These are computers with 80C88 running MS-DOS (ROM) 2.25.

I have a YouTube playlist of videos covering them here.

They have a pair of VLSI type chips that I assume cram a lot of functionality into them but I've not been able to identify exactly what they are.

The company is "PPS, Inc." which I've not been able to find, and were manufactured in Hong Kong.

I'm assuming the actual part ID is "L1A2710" and the "customisation" ID is GA00001.

The chip measures 24mm square with 17 pins per side, 68 pins in total.

The second chip is larger (29mm square), has 21 pins per side (84 pins in total), has "L1A2711" as a possible part ID and GA00002 as the customisation ID.

Oh ... and if anyone can provide ANY information about Micro Palm Computers or their computers, that would also be a massive help!

Thanks!
Those are custom ASICs manufactured for PPS by LSI Logic. Without a technical manual, it'll be difficult to figure out exactly what they do without reverse-engineering the PCB, but my best guess based on their placement and the chips around them is that they serve as I/O management logic for the 80C88 elsewhere on the board (I would guess the keyboard scanner and RAM management are among the things in them). The other NEC-made chip seems to be a display controller, but I can't find any info on it.

Hello all,
When looking through some old photos, I found a family member using a BBC micro. My question is what cassette player/recorder is it using? Nobody in the family can remember.

Hello,

I have detected four new machines in Spanish films that would be great to identify for me.
