What should I set aside when scrapping computers at work?

One of my neighbors just stripped and trashed one of the all-in-one Macs. Not particularly rare, but for the price he got in copper I would have bought it from him :(

So Aaron, if you get one of those, not a classic one, but the larger ones with the CD drives in front, I might have to pick that up from you.

It's nice to have a lot of room.

Has anyone ever seen an ATX desktop (not tower) case with four 5¼" drive bays? I might be in the market for one of those.
Never seen one. I have a nice enlight desktop ATX case (which are not that common anymore) and it has 3 5.25" external drive bays and 2 3.5" external bays plus a few more 3.5" internal for HDs.

Since you have so much, why not have shelves for the stuff? Do you? Sounds like an organizational nightmare.

I have a whole basement of our building which I've put shelves in to help organize our -newer- stuff... not a ton of room for older stuff! I must have 200 laptops down there haha

Thanks for the help guys. I'll put aside anything old and put the pics in my photobucket acct (see the other thread). I might open an ebay store... we'll see.

I've seen those three-bay cases around. I'm really looking for a four-bay one.

Come to think of it I've never seen one, either. If I see one I'll snag it and see if you'd like it.
Thanks.

Any vintage laptops?

Unknown, how vintage?

Actually, I haven't seen a single AT case for sale on Queensday in Amsterdam and everyone I know tossed them a few years ago.
Things were different even only 3 to 4 years ago, then you could still find AT cases in second hand stores locally.
Now even if you find one, people want money for them while back then (3 to 4 years ago) you could get a complete untested AT computer for like €5.

The attics seem to have run dry of AT cases nowdays.
Strange. When I search on www.marktplaats.nl, www.tweakers.net, www.ebay.de, www.speurders.nl there are still plenty of old computers. Perhaps not for EUR 5 but surely for EUR 10 to 30. And those typically include all components since they are complete PCs.

Examples (took 2 minutes to run the searches):

I've said this before but I've had several great purchases from Aaron7 before. Both on here and the OCH days in case anyone was wondering.

The Ebay ones aren't even located in NL, but in Germany. The sellers won't even ship to NL!
The one on speurders.nl was placed in 2008 lol! I'm pretty sure that one isn't for sale anymore :p
Only one of the remaining cases is a standard AT case. The rest are desktops, which usually are proprietary and if the internal battery has leaked (which is very plausible considering their age), then the case it sits in is for the scrappers. Same goes for the PSU. If something breaks, you got a dead system which will be a pain to repair.

By vintage laptops I meant 486 or older (maybe some P1's). Last count I had 70+ 100% working and complete laptops of various types (yes that number shocked me when I started counting). The vast majority of mine are Thinkpads with a few Gateway, NEC, Dell, Apple as well. Most of what I have is 486 to P4 era.

Well, I've been on the lookout for a ThinkPad 600 series unit, even if it has a broken LCD since I just need it to test some docking stations I got from MikeS a couple of years ago.

BTW, MikeS; I'd better see that core memory soon or the keyboard gets it.... (hold vintage naptha blowtorch up to a defenseless Model M) !!

Hey Aaron, we discussed this ages ago, not sure if you've come across any more Panasonic CF-25 stuff...I do have a couple items I was still kinda poking around for. Also based on the quantities you're working with there may be some 'common' items you have access to that I'm trying to get my hands on 'cheaply'...please fire off a PM at your convenience about the CF-25 stuff and we can get into the other items at the same time.
