Zenith Z-160

Well, someone has to get this thing started, might as well be me...

I have for auction, a vintage Zenith Z-160 portable (luggable). It runs MSDOS 3.2 and Windows 1.04 (I think, may be 1.40) and GEOS, can't remember what version from it's 20mb hard drive. I am also including a vintage MicroSoft mouse with this auction. (Valued at over $30.00 itself).

RAM: 128-640 (This has definately been upgraded to 640k dos memory
and some expanded mem. I just dont rembr how much
either512k or 1mb)

Display: Monochromatic; 80 Chaeacters x 25 lines (One of thhe prettiest displays I have ever seen. Amber in color but leaning toward orange. CGA compatible).
GRAPHICS DISPLAY:320 X 200
Keyboard:Standard, 84 keys, 10 function keys.
Disks: One double-sided double-density, 5 1/4 360kfloppy disks. (This one has also been upgraded with a 20mb hard drive).

I'm not sure if the forums yet have the traffic to support this type of thing, but what were the results?

Did you get any "bids?"

Is there anything we can do (aside from increase the average number of daily visitors) that would make this a better idea?

No, I did not recieve any bids yet, but that doesn't surprize me. I think the item I offer is not well known enough to generate any interest. I listed it on eBay about 9 months ago and that auction ended without a bid also.
I think this is a good feature and you should keep it, at least till the board traffic picks up some.

Just something I've done & some people
here will probably confirm this (if they
are reading!), is posting links to the
newsgroups.

For example I posted a legimitate
question relating towards the Jupiter
Ace & posted a link to that question
in comp.sys.sinclair, comp.lang.forth
& comp.emulators.misc (which I read).

Perhaps sending the link of the original
post to comp.os.cpm or comp.sys.zenith
(if that group exists) may help, because
it's taking your machine to those interest
groups. Actually, comp.sys.zenith may
not exist, but you could also try
comp.sys.ibm.pc.classic (unfortunately,
it doesn't get many people), but since
you've got CP/M, it's perfectly feasible
to post in comp.os.cpm!

There is indeed a comp.sys.zenith and also a comp.sys.zenith.z100, both of which I read regularly. Cszz100 has shown some activity lately, but for a long time I thought it was dead. I haven't tried posting there to sell my Z-160, but that is the next step I suppose.

Well, so much the better then.

But what I was saying that, instead of
going back to square one & advertising
your machine in there. Post a link to
the action (here) in your message to
them. It just saves writing or posting
the ad to them. They could certainally
view it & see if it interests them!

There's also an active Heath/ZDS Users' Group on CompuServe. This group is a continuation of the Heath/ZDS Users' Group that was run by Heath and ZDS when those companies were alive.

They have some sort of deal where you can have full access to their forum without paying the Compuserve membership fee. If you're not a Compuserve or AOL member, you have to do a one time signup to get a free screen name. You can get instructions on the signup process from http://www.wugnet.com/compuserve/access.html

After you have the free screen name, you can go to their forum using http://go.compuserve.com/VintageComputing?AREA=Msgs&SEC=15&loc=us&access=public

They have a Trading Post section that you might consider for your Z-160.

Finally sold my Z-160, five months after listing it here. The buyer found it thru my ad in the CompuServe forum. Just thought I'd mention it, in case anyone else wishes to try that route to sell thier stuff.

Congratulations on selling your machine!

I'm hopeful that our traffic will continue to pick up here and that with the added traffic we'll get more folks willing to buy and sell in this environment.

When this ad was first posted we had fewer then 100 members and only a few hundred posts. We've now passed 250 members and 2,000 posts.

I'm hopeful that we'll see more results from these types of offers over time.
