Ah, the new work laptop:

2.16GHz Core Duo processor
2GB RAM
100GB hard drive
DVD burner
1600x1200 15" screen with 256MB video RAM
Gigabit Ethernet

Nothing beats the feeling of a new toy ...

And for those of you wondering how Linux sees the Core Duo:

Mr. Brutman must be rolling in cash(or he financed)
Sweet laptop.
What Linux distro are you using Mr. Brutman?
Did you have to configure any drivers?

Carlsson gets the gold star .. It's mine to use, but not my property. Still, a very nice machine.

Fedora Core 4 is on it now with a newer kernel. (You need to do a kernel upgrade to get the Ethernet hardware working.) Everything else (sound and video) just seems to work at the moment. I'll probably work on getting the power management features setup today.

It's a big animal though .. doesn't fit in the laptop bag too well. :)

Have you upgraded gnome? FC4 has an older version of gnome with bad memory management, the newer gnome, 2.21 i think is a lot faster than the old versions, due to the new memory management.

No. Gnome is installed, but I'm a FVWM user from the mid 90s. The third thing I do after an install is build and install FVWM. (The first and second things are a kernel upgrade and get updates for all of the RPMs.)

My Pentium 233 with 128MB took 8 hours to compile a 2.6.x kernel. This machine did it in about 35 minutes. :)
