IBM PC Convertable battery or workaround

I would like to wake up my old Convertable - could probably even use a dead battery as long as it is not shorted. Any feed back would be appreciated - even workarounds or custom battery shop links would be appreciated.

I had a chance 6 years ago to buy a new one for 100 dollars but couldn't at the time. I don't know how long the chemical life is for these units so this may be impossible without ordering a custom rebuild? I would say that if one knew the resistance of the original battery one could bypass the battery with a wire and resistor and use the power supply to run the PC. IF I am all wet - I will invite criticism. Thanks!

If you cruise around for a bit using Google I remember that somebody had posted instructions for rebuilding the battery pack using NiCad 'C' batteries. It was slightly painful to do, but not impossible.

I need to do this with my convertible too - it runs fine off the wall, but is worthless on the battery pack.

most of those battery packs are precisely that - a bank of nicads. I cracked open something at one point and found that out. The one I opened was made up of AA size batteries though. I can't see it being that big of a deal. Possibly you'd even get to use the old housing, but maybe that was the idea regardless.
