ROMS and copyright

If i own a synth, do i have the right to copy the wavedata and use it in a software sampleplayer for own use?

If i sell the synth could i still use it?
I understand they can impossibly know but what is the legal status of copying PCM rom of a product you own, and to use the data for own purpose?

That's a tough one. Probably depends on the EULA. It'd certainly void your warranty, and the rom samples are usually copyright of the manufacturer. Using the sounds as sounds are probably ok as long as you own the rom and/or device. Selling a new device with those sounds of course wouldn't be acceptable.
