I just got an IBM PCjr from eBay yesterday. Opened it up and found this keyboard adapter loose inside the box. It's obviously for connecting an XT or AT style keyboard to the PCjr. However, a web search produces nothing and I don't know where to connect the blue minigrabber. I traced the blue connector to pin 8 of the Motorola MC68705P3S. It is I/O pin 0 of a 4-bit port on the chip.

Does anyone have some info on this adapter?

The place to go for PCjr stuff is http://www.brutman.com/PCjr

That being said, I don't have that adapter on the web pages. It is quite rare - I think I have only seen one other one. Synectics made a few options, including a cartridge that sped up the POST for a quicker boot and a 'Siamese' cartridge adapter to let you put two non-conflicting cartridges in the same slot.

That keyboard adapter replaces the IR module in the front of the system that receives signals from the infra-red keyboard. You will notice an 8 pin header on the bottom of your adapter. Look near the 'eye' hole in front of the machine, and there should be a matching receptacle on the motherboard where the original IR sensor was. I'm not sure about the correct orientation - if you are willing to wait a little I'll find my system with this adapter and see how it is installed.

Better yet - wait for me to snap a few pics of mine. You have to install that clip correctly too ...

Already been to your site Mike. Has a lot of good information about the PCjr. Inside my PCjr are 2 nylon posts that the board clips onto so it will only install one way. I noticed that there doesn't seem to be anwhere to mount the connector the keyboard plugs into. I guess you have to let it dangle out the rear of the box.

I'd like to borrow that MPU off the board to see if I can read the code on my programmer. It'd be nice to save the code to fix them or to homebrew one.

What do I need to read the chip? Does it have the same pinout as an EPROM? If so, I could put it on an unused ROM option slot and read it using the machine. Otherwise, I'd be willing to get the right programmer.

This is something I need to learn how to do ..
