Got a card in, a Soundblaster CT-1320c (SB 1.5). It is missing the 2 optional CMS-301 chips (has the sockets), what are they for and are they worth getting? This card is adlib compatible?

The CMS-301 chips add gameblaster support. It's basically just a simple synth channel with 6 sinewaves connected in parallel (IIRC). Nothing special, and you'll get way better sound with the OPL2, unless you really like the sinewave sound though.

Sorry, it turns out that each of the two chips has a pair of 3-channel synths. All of the 3 channels within one of the synths has only one operator that output squarewave, where one controlls a noise generator, and another one got an envelope (the last one controlls the envelope function). With two chips you have a total of 4 of those synths, which results in 12 squarewave generators, 4 of them controlling 4 noise generators, and another 4 with envelope where the remaining 4 is used to controll the envelopes.
