5170 cmos battery

Hello,

the voltage of the cmos battery in my ibm-5170 is low. I have a battery holder for a 6V CR-2P Lithium Battery. Is 6V ok or is it to much?
I ask because in the 5170-FAQ is a resistor on that kind of battery.

I've seen 6V replacement units without the resistor.
I've often thought that the resistor was there to extend the life of the unit (i.e. MC146818 and MC14069 draw less power at the lower end of their voltage range).
