In a recent pile of old software I've acquired, it would seem that there's a DSDD copy of MS-DOS 5.0. I don't think I've ever seen/heard of actual install floppies in this density for 5.25" media. Anyone know if this is something usual for OEMs, or if it's an in-house developed media set?

I don't think it is that unusual. I have PC DOS 5.02 here on double density 5.25" floppies, and used it recently to install DOS on an XT.

I had a copy of DOS 5 on DS/DD 5.25" floppies. There were still a lot of PCs and XTs with 360K floppy drives out there in the early 1990s and Microsoft wasn't ready to leave those behind yet. I think by the time you got to DOS 6/6.2/6.21/6.22, the retail package was 3.5" disks with a coupon you could send in to get 5.25" media. So DOS 6 on 360K floppies would be more unusual, but still not unheard of.

DOS 6+ on 360K 5.25" disks would be rare as hell I think. Sure some people would have sent in for them, but that would be a very small minority.
