Slow access to this site

I don't understand what's going on here. I'm having a heck of a hard time accessing this forum. It keeps timing out, or having slow transfers. It's only this site that's doing it. I have tested my internet connection and verified I have a solid link at both the cable modem, and my ISP. I also have a ping time of 19ms to speed tests that I run, and very consistent with no dropped ICMP requests, so I know it's definitely not me.

Sometimes I have to click links here twice, or even 3 times. And if I'm say, uploading a file on youtube, forget it, this site never responds, yet others do (albeit slowly due to delayed "ack" responses to the server). Does this server just have too quick of a time out period? I did a trace route, but will only show an admin or mod upon request..

I'm not seeing any slowness from my neck of the woods but recently had a world of annoying slowness from home (cable modem) but that was randomly dropping packets left and right. (You could try tracerouting to this or another site and look for similar random drops or perhaps some system in your route here is acting up?) It sounds like you know the syntax but in Windows command line "tracert www.google.com" or *nix "traceroute www.google.com" or vintage-computer.com.

No other dropouts, not like this anyway..

Kinda interesting. My traceroute ends up the same as your last two but IS able to ping the end destination where yours looks like it times out on 64.57.210.225 until you manually stopped it. Not sure what to make of that. Certainly your source IP isn't blocked or anything, do you have any filtering software or firewall software running? Erik checks his mail pretty regularly and could probably respond in a day as well to possibly check system logs for your public IP if there's anything funny going on.

No firewall or filtering of any kind.. Just a computer connected to the router and the router to the modem.. Only thing non-standard is that I have a domain controller, but all DNS requests go to OpenDNS.

But, it resolved the DNS, so the DNS side is fine.

I'm gonna try the model 25 and see where that goes.

Ok so right now I have no access on my isp to this site. Im on my cell right now. Heres the results of the model 25s trace route. It worked at first then even it failed.

There are so many things that could be wrong ... bad TTL times, routing loops, blacklisting, etc.

The problem clearly is not with the VC forum server. Most of us are doing fine. I would contact your ISP tech support with your traceroute results and ask them to reproduce.

My ISP won't even lift a finger. Heck I work for them, they just don't have the tools to really do anything.

I do see that the server works, but the problem seems to stem at that last hop, nothing is getting past it, and I can't run a traceroute on my phone (and don't have a tethering option with T-Mobile).

EDIT: Ok so NOW it starts working just fine on the computers.. Trace route is now consistent. Hope it doesn't happen again, or I might be contacting both my ISP and that last hop..
